Visiting Boutique Timbers
A couple of months ago I decided it was finally time to take the trip up the coast to visit Boutique Timbers (near Port Macquarie) to pick up some much-needed timber. Boutique Timbers are specialists in high quality timber and are happy to provide timber for anyone including, furniture makers, artists and hobbyists alike.
My father and I left early as we knew it was going to be bit of a trek up the coast but using the directions we were given we had no real problems finding our way. If your keen to take the trip to purchase from them be sure to give Mal or Greg a call first.
Upon arrival we were presented with acres and acres of timber for selection, all neatly stacked in piles according to size and species. After a quick chat with Greg regarding my requirements we headed down to a lower part of the property to pick up the timber we needed. In this case I was after some Camphor Laurel slabs.
Here is Greg helping me make my selection. Despite the vast amount of timber Greg knows exactly where everything is and was great at suggesting which pieces would suit best.

After we loaded up our trailer to the brim Greg invited us for a quick tour of the property showing us other timber they had in stock as well as how they process the timber. Here is a tree ready for ready for slabbing on the big bandsaw. This bandsaw will process trees up 1.2m wide.
A photo of a used bandsaw blade on some scrap pieces of timber. These scraps are great for hobbyists to sort though, kind of like a big lucky dip :)
Overall is was a great day out and even though is was a bit of a drive to get there it was definitely worth the effort. Also, thanks to my father Rod who came along on the trip and took these cool pics :)
